What "all-inclusive"
actually means

Every resort is slightly different, but here's the standard breakdown of what's typically covered — and what usually costs extra.

✓ Usually included

  • Accommodation in your chosen room category
  • All meals — buffet, main dining rooms, casual restaurants
  • Domestic alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages
  • Pool & beach access with chairs and towels
  • Non-motorized water sports (kayaks, paddleboards)
  • Daytime & evening entertainment and shows
  • Kids' club and family activities (at family resorts)
  • Fitness center access
  • Wi-Fi (at most modern resorts)

$ Often costs extra

  • Premium imported spirits & top-shelf wines
  • Specialty à la carte restaurants (sometimes require reservation)
  • Spa treatments and salon services
  • Motorized water sports (jet skis, parasailing)
  • Off-resort excursions and day trips
  • Airport transfers (unless package includes them)
  • Room upgrades and butler service
  • Gratuities (policies vary by resort)
Lyssa's tip: Some resorts — like Sandals — genuinely include everything, including premium spirits, gratuities, and even water sports. Others use "all-inclusive" loosely. I always tell you exactly what's covered before you book so there are zero surprises on your bill.
Common questions

Resort FAQ

Everything people ask me before booking their first all-inclusive.

Most all-inclusive resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean require at least one guest aged 18+ to book a room. Adults-only resorts (Sandals, Secrets, Excellence, etc.) typically require all guests to be 18+. Family-friendly resorts welcome children of any age with a parent or guardian present.
Adults-only resorts offer a quieter, more romantic atmosphere — great for couples, honeymoons, and friend trips without kids. Family resorts have kids' clubs, water slides, and more activities but can be livelier. Some larger resorts (like Barceló Bávaro) have both adult and family sections. I'll help you pick based on your specific group.
Both are excellent — it really depends on your priorities. Mexico (Cancún, Riviera Maya, Los Cabos) is usually more affordable and has the widest range of options. The Caribbean (Jamaica, Barbados, Dominican Republic, Bahamas) tends to offer more character and unique experiences. I'll ask you the right questions to figure out which fits you best.
Yes — unlike some cruises, all international resort trips require a valid passport. Make sure yours is valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates. If you don't have one, the standard processing time is 6–8 weeks, or you can pay for expedited service.
For a true all-inclusive like Sandals, your extra spend can be very close to zero. For most other resorts, budget an extra $50–$150 per person per day for specialty dining, premium drinks, excursions, and spa. I always give you a realistic total cost estimate — not just the room rate.
Booking through me costs you exactly the same as booking direct — resorts set fixed rates. The difference is I know which room categories are actually worth upgrading, which resorts have gone downhill, which ones are overrated, and how to get perks like resort credits and room upgrades. You get my expertise at no extra cost.
